Baked beans are beans, cooked (stewed) in tomato sauce, sugar, and spices. They may also be cooked in salt pork or flavoured with maple syrup, corn syrup, molasses, or bacon. They are usually sold in cans.
Most commercial baked beans are made from Haricot Beans (White Navy Beans) and sold in Cans.
Canada’s Quebec-style beans have maple syrup and Boston baked beans have added molasses and salt pork.
Baked beans can also be made at home. Here is my favourite Gordon Ramsay’s Homemade Spicy Baked Beans with Potato Cakes. I made this over the weekends…..

That looks delicious!
I grew up having beans on toast regularly (always the basic tomato sauce, no meat or maple syrup). Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
I also love the original one. No maple syrup. So good!

I like my baked beans with some Worcestershire sauce and a few anchovies cooked through them.
That sounds like an interesting take. I should try it!!!

While I know that Worcestershire sauce has anchovies in it, the extra anchovies add a special sort of saltiness.
I am the only anchovy fan here…
I found when cooking the anchovies in, you cannot see them in the end and I wonder if anyone would pick the added flavour was anchovy. Not suggesting at all you deceive your family though 😃
You are absolutely right. When I just add it and not mention it, everybody will slurp and lick their fingers and say how tasty the food is. LOL. I’ve tried that before!

I like we’re on the same wavelength 😃
