Poppy Seed Roll Recipe 

  • Ingredients for Glacé Icing
  • 120g (1 cup) icing (confectioners) sugar
  • 15g (1 tablespoon) butter
  • 30ml (2 tablespoons) boiling water
  • Desiccated (or shredded) coconut to sprinkle, or nuts, or seeds etc (optional)

Iced Tea Bun myfavouritepastime.com_9626Sift icing sugar into a small heatproof bowl. Make a well in the centre and set aside.

Iced Tea Bun myfavouritepastime.com_9624To make Glacé Icing:: combine the butter and water in a small pan and heat over low heat until butter is melted.

Iced Tea Bun myfavouritepastime.com_9627Add the butter mixture to the icing sugar and mix to a smooth paste. Stand bowl over a pan of simmering water and stir until icing is glossy.

Glacé Icing

Preparation time: 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 120g (1 cup) icing (confectioners) sugar
  • 15g (1 tablespoon) butter
  • 30ml (2 tablespoons) boiling water
  • Desiccated (or shredded) coconut, nuts and seeds (poppy seeds)

Instructions

  1. Sift the icing sugar into a small heatproof bowl. Make a well in the centre and set aside.
  2. Combine the butter and water in a small pan and heat over low heat until butter is melted.
  3. Add the melted butter mixture to the icing sugar and mix to a smooth paste.
  4. Stand bowl over a pan of simmering water and stir until icing is glossy.
  5. Pour the icing over the bun/cake/muffin/bread and sprinkle with desiccated (or shredded) coconut. or decorate with nuts or seeds or just leave plain

Flavour Variations

  1. Orange or lemon: replace the water with strained orange or lemon juice.
  2. Chocolate: Sift 2 teaspoons cocoa powder into the icing sugar.
  3. Coffee: dissolve 2 teaspoons coffee granules in water together with butter
