Chipotle sauce is a hot sauce made from Chipotle peppers.
Chipotle or chilpotle peppers, are smoke-dried red Jalapeño pepper used for seasoning.
The ripe red Jalapeño peppers are picked at the end of the growing season, when they have lost much of he moisture, then they are smoke-dried for several days.
After drying, they more or less have a texture like dried prunes or raisins. Their skin becomes thick wrinkled and dark brown. They have a mildly spicy, smoky and earthy flavour.
There are several brands of hot chipotle sauce in the market. They essentially add a hot and smoky kick to whatever you add them to.
My bottle of hot chipotle sauce has the following ingredients.
Chipotle Peppers (smoked-red Jalapeño peppers, water, salt), white vinegar, water, salt, seasonings, sugar, Dehydrated onion, Dehydrated garlic, Natural Flavour, Caramel colour, citric acid, and Tabasco chilli peppers.
Nutritional Value of Chipotle Sauce
The sauce has no nutritional value except for 95mg salt for every 5ml (1 teaspoon) of sauce.
