The Most Widely Grown Oranges
Valencia orange is a juicy, thin skinned orange cultivar, grown in the US. Valencia’s were named after the city of Valencia, Spain.
They are medium to large sized, have a smooth, thin skin and an oval or round shape. Valencia oranges have seeds, varying in number from zero to seven per fruit The warm temperatures of the season may make the skin reabsorb chlorophyll as it hangs on the tree, causing a ripe orange to look partly green.
They are the most widely grown oranges that account for about half the crop produced in the US each year. They are primarily grown for processing and orange juice production but can also be eaten, because they have an excellent taste and desirable colour which makes the juice distinctive and bright coloured.

Season
The commercial harvest season in Florida runs from March to June. Worldwide, Valencia oranges are prized as the only variety of orange in season during summer. Florida Valencia’s available in the middle of the orange season are considered the best oranges.
