My Favourite Toasts

I made these toasts several months ago, for breakfast. They were really tasty and easy to make. My kids loved them too!

French Toast Fingers

Preparation time: 15 minutes; Serves: 4

Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • ¼ cup milk
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup strawberry jam
  • Thin slices of fresh fruit (optional)
  • 8 slices stale white bread (2-3 days old)
  • Icing (confectioners) sugar to dust the top

Instructions

  1. Whisk the eggs, milk and salt in a small bowl.
  2. Spread jam on four slices. Top with fruit slices and the remaining slices bread. Trim crusts and cut each sandwich into three strips.
  3. Quickly dip both sides of the cut strips into egg. Cook on a lightly greased skillet, 2 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  4. Dust with icing (confectioners’ sugar) and serve.

  1. I keep meaning to make something like this for the boys! Someday I’ll get around to it. These look delicious. Good way to use my many jams I’ve been making this summer!

    1. Oh yes I remember all those beautiful jams you normally make. I only have store-bought jam….ha ha! I think it’s high time I started making jam too!
