Idared Apple

Idared is  a cross between ‘Jonathan’ x ‘Wagener’

It originated in Moscow, Idaho, United States and was developed by Idaho Agricultural Experimental Station and was Introduced in the1930s.

Idared has a red skin. The size is medium to large with round to flat round shape.

The flesh is firm, juicy, white to cream to pale yellow or greenish yellow

The flavour is mild and tart. The apple keeps its flavour when oven baked.

It’s a favourite in the Northeast and parts of the Midwest.

Culinary Use of Idared Apples

This is an all-purpose apple, ideal for eating fresh, oven baking, cooking and salads. It keeps its flavour and shape even when baked.

it is very well suited for making apple sauces, pies, and cakes.

It makes a beautifully coloured apple sauce. Just cook apples with skin on and strain the sauce to get the best pink colour.  (New York State Apple Country)
