My Favourite Beef Recipes
Thank God it’s Friday, I can sleep a little longer tomorrow. I am sitting around watching Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives with all that glorious food they cook. I can smell and taste everything I see on the screen. If I could eat like that every single day, I would probably add some 50 extra pounds and an extra round middle. How was your week and what are you up to this evening?
We have great weather for the next several days. Sunny, sunny, sunny and more. Oh boy that chicken Pot Pie looks delicious and those fries are golden and crunchy (still watching… LOL), and dozing a little. I want to share a recipe for my favourite fried meat with lots of spices but you are at liberty to control the amount of hot pepper you add to it. This recipe is simple but extra special. I encourage you to try it. Have a lovely weekend. Mine will be extra busy and fun.
- Ingredients
- 600g (1.3Ib) stewing beef, trimmed, cut into cubes and patted dry
- 2½ teaspoons extra virgin olive oil
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon finely grated fresh ginger stem
- 3 cloves garlic, crushed
- ½ teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 2 teaspoons ground coriander
- ½-1 teaspoon dried chilli (pepper) flakes or cayenne pepper
- 180ml (¾ cup) warm water
- Salt to taste
- 1 large tomato, skinned and chopped (1 cup when chopped)
- 4-5 whole fresh green chillies (optional)
- ½ teaspoon garam masala
- 4 tablespoons chopped coriander leaves (cilantro)
- 2 small tomatoes, sliced, to garnish
Please always remember to assemble all ingredients before you start
Heat the oil over medium heat and add the onions, ginger and garlic. Fry until the onions are just soft, about 5 minutes.
Lower the heat and add the turmeric, cumin, coriander and chilli flakes or powder.
Stir and fry for 2-3 minutes..
Add the meat, turn the heat to medium and fry for 5 minutes stirring frequently.
Cover the pot and cook on medium heat, until all the liquid dries out (15-20 minutes), stirring frequently. Uncover the meat in the last 5 minutes, if there is too much water
Turn the heat to high and fry the meat for 2-3 minutes stirring continuously. Reduce heat to medium low and fry for another 7-8 minutes stirring frequently. The meat should now look fairly dry and the fat should be separated from the meat.
Add the water and salt, bring to the boil and simmer 50-60 minutes or until the meat is tender. Add more water if necessary. At the end of the cooking time, the thick spice paste should be clinging to the meat.
Add the tomatoes and the whole green chillies (if using). Stir and fry over high heat for 3-4 minutes. Stir in garam masala and half the coriander leaves (cilantro) and remove from heat.
Serve and sprinkle with remaining coriander (cilantro) and garnish with tomato slices.
I totally loved this meat…try it
Spicy Fried Beef
Preparation time: 30 minutes; Cooking time: 2 hours; Serves: 4
Ingredients
- 600g (1.3Ib) stewing beef, trimmed, cut into cubes and patted dry
- 2½ teaspoons extra virgin olive oil
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon finely grated fresh ginger stem
- 3 cloves garlic, crushed
- ½ teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 2 teaspoons ground coriander
- ½-1 teaspoon dried chilli (pepper) flakes or cayenne pepper

- 4-5 whole fresh green chillies (optional)
- ½ teaspoon garam masala
- 4 tablespoons chopped coriander leaves (cilantro)
- 2 small tomatoes, sliced, to garnish
Instructions
- Heat the oil over medium heat and add the onions, ginger and garlic. Fry until the onions are just soft, about 5 minutes.
- Lower the heat and add the turmeric, cumin, coriander and chilli flakes or powder. Stir and fry for 2-3 minutes.

- Add the tomatoes and the whole green chillies. Stir and fry over high heat for 3-4 minutes.

Your recipe has a lot going on – love all of the spices and I am sure it is delicious 🙂
It was more than delicious. The sort of beef I would love to eat every fortnight. Thanks for complimenting!
Liz
Looks wonderful, you are making me hungry again! I love Triple D, as does, the rest I the family. The kids want to make everything they see on Food TV!
I am worse than your kids. I want to make, taste and eat everything I see on TV. Hilarious. One day I want to do a Triple D tour and eat just the way Guy Fieri does it. I can’t wait!!!
Liz
That would be fun! We have been to several restaurants featured on the show which is always a nice experience.
Lucky you! I would really love to visit some of those restaurants. Definitely on my bucket list. Have a great evening!!!
Liz
We even have one restaurant here in town and another nearby. Look forward to fun travels. The first thing we do when going someplace new is look for restaurants that have been on Food TV!
That’s a great way of finding great restaurants. I shall follow your cue. I love eating good food. Have a fabulous day!
Liz
Looks and sounds delicious. Just needs rice or potatoes or both. 🙂
I vote for steamed rice, Lignum. It soaks up all the spicy goodness!!!
Liz
This looks yummy. Somewhere between a curry and a stew.
Ha ha you got it right. It tastes really good. I loved it!!!!
liz
This one looks so yummy!
It looks a bit like our “rendang”.
I can’t wait to try it with pork! 😀
By the way, do you use big green chili or the small bird’s eye green chili?
I use green big chilli because we don’t have the bird’s eye chilli here. How is life for you, Hari? I hope you are still working? have a lovely night!
Liz
I love spicy beef, this sounds like a great recipe. Thanks for the inspiration. 🙂
I love spicy too. Thanks and have a lovely day!

This looks really good! My family loves beef so I have a feeling this is going to be a big hit at the dinner table.
Thank you, Veronica. I hope it finds it’s way to the dinner table, soon. Have a great day!

As always – I’ve ‘pinned’ this baby!! In fact, I’m going to print it, buy the ingredients and prepare it tonight.
Thank you so much, dear, for pinning. You are totally awesome. I love your energy. I wish you a fabulous day and happy cooking!
Liz
Actually – my energy is NOT what is used to be for several reasons ‘health-wise’ but I’m working on all of them!! ; o )
What matters more is the spirit or should I say the inner being of the person. You do have great energy and I love it. keep on keeping on and have a great week!
Liz
Thanks Liz ! And you’re right – I DO have ‘One Helluva Strong Spirit’! (I’m also spiritual…. not ‘religious’ but deeply spiritual.) And, right from the start, I could tell you have one HUGE heart… I think it was when I tried your great recipe for bread… and somehow screwed it up!
Thanks for the kind words. I am so honoured. Did you finish the bread? I was so busy over the weekend, I never had time to bake. I wish you a happy week!
Liz
I know I’m going to love, love, love this!! ; o )
It’s so delicious, you should try it, Cecile, with some steamed basmati rice. Have a great day!!!!
Liz
Yup – I finished the bread ! It made excellent toast. I also found a great bread recipe from ‘King Arthur Flour’,, which is made in Vermont, just a state away. I’ve visited their shop – fun!! I gave away half a loaf of the bread I made with the new recipe I found – hey, I ‘gotta share the wealth’! ; o )
Oh how nice. Where is this recipe? Thanks for making the bread and I wish you a fantastic week!
Liz
I hoping to post the bread recipe next week – along with a acorn squash and pear bisque !!!
I look forward to it, with my fingers crossed. Have a goodnight!

I’m busy tomorrow but I’m hoping to have the rest of the week to ‘accomplish’ things. I won’t have anyone here until Thursday, meaning the two guys who have doing work on my house. Even the guy who’s been helping me clean out my barn is almost done. (I feel like hanging out a “Do Not Disturb Sign”.) I’m leaving soon for Cancun and there’s so much I want to get done before I go. Let’s see how successful I am…. Also, I’m hoping this third round of antibiotics does ‘the trick’… Needless to say, I’m getting discouraged and a bit concerned that this infection isn’t clearing up.
Hi Cecile,
I’m terribly sorry. Life sometimes gets so busy for me…I can’t seem balance everything and the blog is always the first to take the brunt. How is the infection? Has it cleared? Have you left for Cancun? Oh god I’m asking so many questions. I wish you all the best and thanks a million for being my friend. You’re a lovely lady! with a huge heart! Have a wonderful weekend!
Liz
As always Liz – you’re so kind and thoughtful !! I think you’re an amazing blogger – you have posted so many delicious recipes!! It certainly seems to me that you get a great deal accomplished in your life. As you already know, I used to get a lot more accomplished… which frustrates me… as you also already know. I think we are all hard on ourselves – don’t you? Hope you’re having a great day. It took me all day yesterday to recover from all the dampness in our room at Playa Dell Carmen. For some reason the air conditioner didn’t take away ANY of the intense humidity in our room. I had to wash everything I took – even if I hadn’t even worn it. And now – I’m going to begin ‘accomplishing things’ today !! ; o )
Sorry I took so long to respond and thanks for all the kind words. You always motivate me, even when I’m feeling a bit low. I am also so hard on myself, sometimes, I wonder what the heck I’m doing. Sorry to hear your room was damp. I think the clothes are feeling nice and clean and happy now. I wish you a happy week. I hope you’ve continued to accomplish. Please don’t be too hard on yourself. Best wishes!
liz
That looks interesting! At first I was thinking oriental, but reading the recipe I see it’s more of an Indian curry style. I love the scent in the house when frying the Indian spices! After eating that kind of food, it sort of awakens your palette doesn’t it? I’m so glad you are giving us these easy to follow recipes! I’ve tried many and haven’t had a bad one yet. I’m in painting mode today….my guest bedroom is being painted. Doing it all in creams and mochas with touches of teal here and there! Still have to buy curtains but think I will wait til the paint and other bits come together! Have a great busy and fun weekend!
Sandy
I love creams and mochas, and teal is not bad either. It’s one of my daughter’s favourite colours. I just bought her a teal towel in IKEA the last weekend. I am always looking for more storage space for books and other things. I always watch the Marylyn Dennis show and wish I could give my house a complete make over. Good luck with the guest room make over. I am sure it will turn out to your expectations. That spicy fried beef was really nice. I can’t wait to make it again. Do have a lovely day Sandy. Still trying to clear backlogged messages. They never seem to end. Best wishes to your family.
Liz
I LOVE the color scheme your using in your guest room & I bet the touches of teal really make everything POP !!
Thank you Cecile. It’s done! Took me longer than I had planned because I’m too fussy or something but at last I can put “done” to it. Thanks for the vote of confidence! I love love love the teal touches!
Ha ha I hoped you’d glimpse that message. I can feel how nice everything turned out. Have a fabulous evening, Sandy!
Liz
Sounds delicious! – I have to confess I often use curry pastes and powders rather than cooking entirely from scratch, but I think I have all the spices for this 🙂
You know I bought so many jars of spices and I love to make sure I use them. I tend to keep away from store bought pastes. I love knowing what goes into my food, but hey sometimes I also use those curry pastes especially the Thai one. Have a wonderful weekend!
Liz
This would go very well with naan or rice yum…yes liz love to sleep longer on the weekends…use to sleep a lots earlier…now my baby is a coco clock he gets by 6.30 Lolz…have a great weekend….
Hi Natasha
I totally agree. I had mine with steamed basmati rice. Ha ha all my babies are grown up now. But I can never forget when the last two were born. They are one year apart and it was a nightmare. I didn’t sleep properly for more than 4 years. Now the youngest is taller than me. He is growing so fast. Have a wonderful day!
Liz
looks so yum..mouthwatering😋😋
thank you!
Liz
Looks delicious! Especially with those spices 🙂

liz
Just LOVE Triple D……. always great places and food.
thanks and have a good day!
liz
Looks very tempting! I have some cooked roast in the refrigerator – maybe I’ll try some of those spices with it tomorrow. Chicken Stir Fry tonight.
Virtual hugs,
Judie
I love chicken stir fry I am sure you enjoyed the meal. Have a great day and Virtual Hugs to you too!
Liz
This looks absolutely fantastic. I may have to get the ingredients I do not have and make this one night for dinner. Any suggestions as to what pairs well with this?
I had mine with some steamed rice but flatbread would be ideal too. Thanks for visiting me and wish you a lovely week!
